Customized Treatments
Periodontal treatment is a structured clinical protocol designed to eliminate infection and halt bone loss. This treatment at our clinic in Málaga focuses on the care of gums and the tissues supporting the teeth.
It is essential to understand that periodontal treatment is not a single procedure, but a process adapted to the severity of the condition. At Clínica Dental M. González Orta, we treat diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis, preventing serious complications and tooth loss.

Treatment Phases
What to expect in the different phases of this treatment?
Unlike a basic cleaning, it acts beneath the gum to disinfect the roots and stabilize the tissues. Through a staged approach, we aim to stop the disease and ensure the survival of your teeth.
Before touching any instrument, we need a detailed map of your mouth. Not all patients require the same level of intervention.
Plaque Index: We evaluate the areas where bacteria accumulate most to personalize hygiene instructions.
Periodontogram: This is a millimeter measurement of the depth of periodontal pockets (the space formed between the gum and the tooth).
Radiographic Series: Allows us to visualize exactly how much bone structure has been lost around each root.
This is the core of the treatment. Its purpose is to eliminate the causative factor: bacteria and subgingival calculus (tartar).
Hygiene Instructions: We teach you specific techniques (interproximal brushes, dental floss) because without your home care, bacteria will re-colonize the area within a few days.
Scaling and Root Planing (Curettage): The mouth is divided into sections (quadrants). Under local anesthesia, we use instruments called curettes and ultrasonic devices for deep cleaning beneath the gum.
Disinfection: Toxins are removed from the root surface so that the gum can reduce inflammation and re-attach to the tooth.
Approximately 4 to 6 weeks after curettage, we re-measure the gums.
If deep pockets persist where instruments could not reach effectively, we evaluate the need for a surgical phase (access or regenerative surgery).
If inflammation has subsided and pockets have reduced, we proceed to the maintenance phase.
This is the most important long-term phase. Periodontitis is a chronic disease; it is not cured, but controlled.
Relapse Control: We detect any signs of reactivation before it causes further bone damage.
Regular Visits: Depending on the patient’s risk, professional maintenance cleanings are performed every 3, 4, or 6 months.
